Nera D. White
Nera White was one of the most complete female players of her era and a pioneer during the early days of women’s basketball. Film clips replay her extraordinary talents, with her overall ability far exceeding other players of her era. She was quite simply faster, quicker, and stronger than most women of that generation. White was named an AAU All-America an astounding 15 years in a row. In 1957 she led the United States to the World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, where she earned another Most Valuable Player honor. From 1958 to1969, the athletically-gifted White led a team sponsored by the Nashville Business College (NBC) to ten Amateur Athletic Union national championships including eight consecutive starting in 1962. In the process, she was named the AAU Tournament’s Most Valuable Player ten times. A player whose skill and athleticism were before her time, White was one of the best woman players in the world.
