Moses Malone, enshrined as a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001, has passed away at the ago of 60.
A three-time NBA Most Valuable Player, Malone was recognized as one of the NBA’s 50 Greatest Players as a dominant big man throughout his career. Nicknamed the "Chairman of the Boards,” he averaged 20.6 points and 12.2 rebounds per game. He was named NBA Finals MVP in 1983, as he led the Philadelphia 76ers to the NBA Championship.
“The Hall of Fame was saddened to hear of the passing of Moses Malone, a true giant in the game and throughout the communities that he touched during and after his career,” said John L. Doleva, President & CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. “Moses was larger than life on the court but one of the kindest, most generous people you will ever meet. We will have lasting memories of his reunion at Enshrinement this past weekend with so many friends and colleagues. This is a sudden and devastating loss for the basketball world."
Malone played over 20 NBA seasons, leading the league in rebounding six times, ranking fifth all-time with 16,212 boards. His 27,409 points is eighth all-time. Moses was also a 12-time NBA All-Star after becoming the first player to turn professional from high school.
