Basketball Hall of Fame on the Passing of Bobby Wanzer, Class of 1987

Jan 24, 2016 - SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – Robert F. “Bobby” Wanzer, enshrined as a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987, has passed away at the age of 94. “As one of the first NBA players to shoot over 90 percent from the free thrown line, Bobby Wanzer’s incredible work ethic was on display each time he took the floor, ” said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. “He was a complete player and an even better teammate. He will be truly missed by the basketball community.”

Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Announces Community Partnership with MassMutual for 15th Annual Spalding Hoophall Classic

Jan 12, 2016 - Springfield, Mass. – The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced today that Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company is once again a Community Partner for the 2016 Spalding Hoophall Classic and Presenting Sponsor of Thursday’s games. The high school basketball tournament is in its fifteenth year and will feature over 50 local and national teams at Springfield College’s Blake Arena from January 14-18. Other local supporters include Florence Bank, Springfield College, Big Y World Class Markets, Yankee Candle Village, Comcast, MassLive Sports, The Republican newspaper and Dinn Brothers, long-time provider's of the post game awards.

Basketball Hall of Fame on the Passing of Meadowlark Lemon, Class of 2003

Dec 28, 2015 - Fans around the world lost a part of their basketball family, with the passing of Harlem Globetrotter legend Meadowlark Lemon. Known as the Clown Prince of Basketball, Lemon played more than 16,000 games in front of millions of fans through appearances in over 70 countries. He was one of the most recognizable Globetotters during his career from 1954 until 1978. He played 50 games for the team in 1994.
