Charity Event to Benefit the Orange County Ronald McDonald House
Los Angeles, CA – The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame will host its second annual Golf Classic in southern California on Friday, November 17th at Monarch Beach Golf Links in Dana Point, California. This year’s field will once again bring out some of the biggest names in basketball including this year’s host, Los Angeles Lakers legend and Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 1980 enshrinee, Jerry West.
The Golf Classic will feature Basketball Hall of Famers and basketball celebrities with one represented with each golf foursome. Hall of Famers scheduled to participate include Rick Barry, Elgin Baylor, Van Chancellor, Teresa Edwards, Spencer Haywood, Bernard King, Billie Moore, Gary Payton, Ralph Sampson, Jamaal Wilkes, Gary Williams and more. Many other sports legends will also be on hand. Guests will be treated to a special welcome breakfast, as well as a cocktail reception and dinner to close out the day’s events.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, as well as the Orange County Ronald McDonald House. In conjunction with the Basketball Hall of Fame Golf Classic, legendary players will visit the Ronald McDonald House to engage with the families residing there and bring a dose of fun and excitement.
“We are very pleased to be returning to beautiful southern California for the second annual Basketball Hall of Fame Golf Classic,” said John L. Doleva, President & CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. “This exceptional charity event allows us to raise funds for our annual initiatives surrounding the game we love, but more importantly, it will allow us to partner with the Orange County Ronald McDonald House and contribute to the tremendous work they are doing in the local community.”
"The Orange County Ronald McDonald House is ecstatic to partner with the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame! The Basketball Hall of Fame is known for honoring and celebrating basketball’s greatest moments and people and the Ronald McDonald House mirrors a similar practice,” said Noel Burcelis, Executive Director Orange County Ronald McDonald House. “Our charity recognizes just how valuable moments are between a parent and a seriously ill child and our work focuses on keeping families close during trying times. The members inducted to the Hall of Fame exemplify character traits such as: commitment, dedication and heart, which our charity so often witnesses in the families we serve. This truly is a coming together of two great organizations."
The Basketball Hall of Fame will use funds generated by the charity golf event to support youth initiatives, educational platforms, artifact and exhibit preservation, and the overall growth and awareness of the sport of basketball. The Orange County Ronald McDonald House and Ronald McDonald Family Rooms will use the resources generated to provide a comforting "home away from home" for the families of seriously ill children receiving treatment in Orange County hospitals.
The site of the Golf Classic, Monarch Beach Resort, is an iconic Orange County property that exemplifies the best of resort life with luxurious accommodations, exquisite cuisine and premium spa and recreational facilities. The Monarch Beach Golf Links was designed by legendary golf architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and offers unmatched views of the Pacific Ocean.
A limited number of golf foursomes are available, as well as sponsorship opportunities. Each foursome will include a fifth golfer – a Basketball Hall of Famer or basketball personality. For more information on golf foursomes and partnership opportunities, call 413.231.5540.
