Springfield, Mass. – Now in its 17th year, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame’s Spalding Hoophall Classic has cemented itself as one of the top high school basketball showcases of the season. Hosted at Springfield College’s Blake Arena, the competition features the best teams in the nation and dozens of players considered to be at the top of their classes. Hoping to catch a glimpse of the next generation of stars, fans, scouts and media members make the trip to the Birthplace of Basketball in droves. For Springfield, the event has a tremendous economic impact during the course of the 5-day event, which will run from January 11-15 this year. The Greater Springfield Convention & Visitor’s Bureau has valued the economic impact of the event at $4.19 million. Read full story
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame today announced new board members elected to the Board of Governors, as well as Board of Trustees. Newly elected members serving on the Board of Governors are Sherrie Deans, Executive Director of the National Basketball Players Association Foundation, and Jim Puhala, MassMutual’s Head of Field and Regulatory Compliance. SPRINGFIELD, MA – Today, December 21st, marks the Birthday of Basketball – the game that was invented by Dr. James Naismith in Springfield, Massachusetts and has grown into an international pastime. As part of the celebration of this momentous day, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame has announced the eligible candidates for the Class of 2018, after revealing earlier in the week that players would now be eligible after just three seasons of retirement. SPRINGFIELD, MA – On the Birthday of Basketball, December 21st, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame will announce its list of eligible candidates for the Class of 2018 with modifications to its enshrinement process. The most significant modification will allow Players, Referees and Coaches to now become eligible on the ballot for Hall of Fame honors after three full seasons of retirement. The change was one of two proposals for change presented by the Election Process Committee and passed unanimously by the Hall of Fame Board. Read full story
