Seimone Augustus
Seimone Augustus cut her teeth in basketball on the playgrounds dotting her hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Side by side with her father Seymour, the pair would navigate the city’s streets in search of the best games. Seimone became a local legend while dad Seymour kept inventing new ways to challenge his young daughter. The early lessons helped turn this Bayou Bengal into a two-time National Player of the Year, a three-time Olympian, and a four-time WNBA champion. Augustus led LSU to three consecutive Final Four appearances and twice led the NCAA in total points. In 2006, the Minnesota Lynx selected Augustus with the first pick in the WNBA Draft. She was named Rookie of the Year and earned the first of eight All-Star nods. In 2011, Augustus led a roster of Lynx superstars including Maya Moore, Taj McWilliams-Franklin, Rebekkah Brunson, and Lindsay Whalen to the franchise’s first championship. She was named Finals MVP. Over the next six years, the Lynx would add three more titles, and Augustus would win three Olympic gold medals representing the United States.
